Licensed betting sites in South Africa: how to verify a bookmaker
In South Africa, online sports betting is lawful only through a bookmaker licensed by one of the nine provincial licensing authorities. Interactive casino gambling online is not licensable under the National Gambling Act, so a legitimate South African sportsbook licence does not cover online casino games.
Regulator : Provincial gambling boards & National Gambling Board — Provincial licensing authority registers (e.g. Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board).
How to verify a bookmaker
- Find the licence details in the operator’s website footer (licensing province and licence number).
- Confirm them with the relevant provincial board — for example the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board — or the National Gambling Board.
- Be wary of sites that only show an offshore licence: those are not South African licences.
Basketball betting
Licensed bookmakers typically price NBA and EuroLeague games with fixed odds. Use our odds converter to see the implied probability and the bookmaker’s margin before you bet.
Our method
We will only list bookmakers with a current provincial licence, an affiliate programme that permits promotion in South Africa, clear ZAR payments, basketball coverage and responsible-gambling tools.
